Surge Protectors

Surge Protectors (also known as Surge Protective Devices or SPDs) are specialized electrical safety devices designed to shield sensitive air conditioning and heating system components from sudden voltage spikes and transient power surges. Power surges can be caused by external factors like lightning strikes, grid switching, or downed power lines, as well as internal factors such as major appliances cycling on and off. Without adequate surge protection, these high-voltage spikes can instantly fry or prematurely degrade electronic control boards, variable-speed blowers, and costly inverter compressors. HVAC surge protectors are typically installed directly at the outdoor disconnect box or the main electrical panel. They work by continuously monitoring incoming voltage and instantaneously diverting harmful excess current safely into the ground, ensuring the longevity and operational reliability of the entire climate control system.
